MV Rachel Corrie is a 499 GT coaster owned and operated by the Irish
arm of the Free Gaza Movement, is heading to Gaza with aid. The ship
is named in honour of Rachel Corrie, a former member of the International
Solidarity Movement.
Rachel Aliene Corrie (April 10, 1979 – March 16, 2003)she was crushed to
death in the Gaza Strip by an Israel Defence Forces (IDF) bulldozer when
she was kneeling in front of a local Palestinian's home, thus acting as a
human shield, attempting to prevent IDF forces from demolishing the home.

Let's hope we don't see any more monstrosities like last Monday!

The Song Of The Day

Pearls Before Swine were a sixties psychedelic folk band with progressive
tendencies who hailed out of Melbourne Florida, home to The Doors vocalist
the late Jim Morrison.
While the band are often described as having been in existence from 1965-
74, the active years of the band effectively ended around the time they
left the avant label Esp-Disk and signed with Reprise Records in 1968.
The group took its name from a Bible passage: "Give not that which is holy
unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine..."(Mat.7:6,KJV),
meaning: do not give things of value to those who will not understand or
appreciate it.

The band's early recordings were marked by prototypical themes of the day
such as mysticism and anti-war protest. In later years the most of the
original band departed, leaving founder and vocalist/guitarist Tom Rapp to
carry on as essentially a solo act with a variety of revolving and nominal
members and studio guest musicians.
Albums released during the Reprise years also took on more of a contemporary
and electric country rock sound, with more conventional themes of relation-
ships, nature, and literature. Rapp closed the Pearls Before Swine chapter
for good when he signed with Blue Thumb records in 1971, releasing two final
albums as a solo folk singer-songwriter before retiring from music in 1976.

Rapp would embark on a career as a civil-rights lawyer in '84 after completing
his education at Brandeis University and the University of Pennsylvania Law
School. He resurfaced at the 1997 Terrastock Music Festival in Rhode Island
with his son's band Shy Camp, and in 1999 released his first new album nearly
twenty-eight years with 'A Journal of the Plague Year'.
Today Rapp lives in Florida and has not released any further recordings, but
the early Pearls Before Swine and his solo recordings continue to be repackaged
and reissued in various formats.

And to a friend who asked me why am I so obsessed with that era, besides the
fact that the music was 99% original, imaginative, skillful and meaningful,
I shall quote Rapp's words from an interview back in 1998:
"In the 60's, records spoke with honesty and authority to the people who
listened to them. Now, many times, the only authority in the record is the
authority of money."

That goes for other gengres as well, like Blues or Jazz in 30's-50's.
But 60's -70's, were really so creative that took the boundaries of creation
to a point beyond imagination!
Back then it was a 5% of bands that wasn't that good. And that because every
neighborhood had at least 2-3 bands playing in their garage.
Today is less than 1% that may have something to say.
Not to mention the shameless copying of the past...and eachother.

End of story...

Drop out with me
and just live your life
behind your eyes
your own skies
your own tomorrows

Don't you worry now, don't you worry
The whole world's in too big a hurry

Just be yourself
And no one can step
Inside your mind
From behind
If you just walk out

Don't you worry girl, don't you worry
The whole world's in too big a hurry

They made the rules
And they laid it
On us all
Don't you fall
'Cause then they own you

Don't you worry girl, don't you worry
The whole world's in too big a hurry

They're using you
to kill all the echoes still
around
from the sound
of calendars crumbling

Don't you worry girl, don't you worry
The whole world's in too big a hurry

They made the bomb
would they drop it
on us all?
great and small.
but must we follow

Don't you worry girl, don't you worry
The whole world's in too big a hurry

Drop out with me
and just live your life
behind your eyes
your own skies
your own tomorrows

Don't you worry girl, don't you worry
The whole world's in too big a hurry
